In short: Gates of Olympus is Pragmatic Play's Zeus slot: eight matching symbols anywhere on a 6x5 grid win, multiplier orbs can land on any spin, and the free spins keep a running total that grows as the round goes on. It is simple to learn and very uneven in practice. It suits players who enjoy watching one number build and do not mind long stretches where nothing much happens.

Pays anywhere, with multipliers in the base game

Pragmatic Play launched Gates of Olympus in February 2021. The grid is six reels by five rows with no paylines: 8 to 30 matching symbols anywhere on screen pay up to 50x the bet, the winners are removed and new symbols tumble in until no further win forms. Default stakes run from 0.20 to 240.

Unlike Sweet Bonanza, multipliers are not reserved for the bonus. Multiplier orbs can land on any reel during normal spins and tumbles, with values of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 8x, 10x, 12x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x, 100x, 250x or 500x. When the tumble sequence ends, every orb on screen is added together and the total multiplies that sequence's win.

The free spins total, and its fine print

Four or more Zeus scatters award 15 free spins, and three or more during the round add five more. In free spins, each orb that lands on a winning spin is added to a total multiplier that lasts for the rest of the round.

The detail many players miss is when that total is used. It multiplies a win only on spins where a new orb lands and the spin pays. A win with no fresh orb is paid at face value, however large the total has grown. A big total therefore still needs a winning spin with at least one new orb to pay off.

Ante bet and buy

The ante raises the stake by 25% and doubles the chance of triggering free spins naturally; it also switches off the buy. Without it, the free spins can be bought for 100x the bet at casinos that offer the option. The RTP is 96.50% in all three modes, so the choice changes how a session is spread, not its long-run value.

Ceiling, odds and two volatility ratings

Wins are capped at 5,000x the bet; with the ante on the cap is 4,000x the larger stake. A 50x group under a 500x total would already be 25,000x, so the cap cuts in well before the published maximums combine. The in-game rules put the chance of the maximum at about 1 in 700,000 spins, much shorter odds than the 1000 edition.

Pragmatic itself has rated the game two ways. Its 2021 launch announcement called it "a highly volatile experience", while the volatility meter in the current version shows medium. With so much of the return arriving through occasional large multipliers, the launch description is the safer guide to how sessions feel.

The default RTP is 96.50%, and the Ontario-regulated version checked shows the same 96.5%. Casinos can choose lower settings, as why the same slot can have different RTP explains, and Ontario stake caps can be lower: one regulated casino stops at $100 a spin.

Original or 1000?

Gates of Olympus 1000 uses the same grid and rules but adds a 1,000x orb and raises the cap to 15,000x, at the cost of much longer odds on the maximum. The original's smaller ceiling is reached far more often, which many players will prefer.

In the free demo above, track the free spins total against the wins it actually multiplies; the gap between the two explains most rounds that look promising and pay little.

Questions about Gates of Olympus

When was Gates of Olympus released?

Pragmatic Play launched it in February 2021; the studio dates the release 25 February 2021.

How do wins work without paylines?

Eight to thirty matching symbols anywhere on the 6x5 grid pay up to 50x the bet. Winning symbols are removed and new ones tumble in until no more wins form.

Can multipliers land in the base game?

Yes. Orbs worth 2x to 500x can land on any spin or tumble; at the end of the sequence they are added together and applied to that sequence's win.

How does the free spins multiplier work?

Four or more scatters give 15 free spins. Orbs that land on winning spins add to a running total, which multiplies a win only when a new orb lands and the spin pays.

Can the free spins be retriggered?

Yes. Three or more scatters during the round add five more free spins.

What are the RTP and volatility?

The RTP is 96.50% in normal play, with the ante and with the buy. Pragmatic launched it as highly volatile, while the current in-game meter shows medium.

What is the maximum win?

5,000x the bet. The in-game rules put the chance of reaching it at about 1 in 700,000 spins.

Is there an ante bet or bonus buy?

Both. The ante adds 25% to the stake and doubles the natural trigger chance; without it, free spins can be bought for 100x where the casino allows.
