In short: The Dog House Megaways rebuilds the 2019 original on a six-reel Megaways grid and makes two meaningful changes: wild multipliers now multiply each other, and the free spins ask you to choose between a short round of sticky wilds and a long round of wilds dropped in at random. That choice is the game's real decision point. It suits players who like having a say in how the bonus plays out.
Megaways reels and multiplying wilds
Pragmatic Play released The Dog House Megaways in August 2020. Each of the six reels shows up to seven symbols, which gives up to 117,649 ways to win on a spin; wins pay left to right on adjacent reels. Default stakes run from 0.20 to 240.
Wilds appear on reels 2 to 5 and carry a random 2x or 3x. The key difference from The Dog House is how they combine: when several wilds are part of the same win, their multipliers multiply. Two 3x wilds give 9x, and four 3x wilds across reels 2 to 5 give 81x, where the original's addition would stop at much smaller numbers.
Choose your free spins
Three to six scatters trigger the bonus, and the scatter count sets the size of both options before you pick one:
- Sticky Wilds: 7, 12, 15 or 20 free spins. Every wild that lands gets a 1x, 2x or 3x multiplier and stays until the round ends, resizing as the reel heights change.
- Raining Wilds: 15, 18, 25 or 30 free spins. On each spin up to six wilds of any size, each carrying 1x, 2x or 3x, can be dropped into random positions.
Pragmatic's launch announcement described Sticky Wilds as fewer spins with higher win potential, and the multiplying rule explains why: sticky wilds build on each other spin after spin, while raining wilds have to line up again on every spin. Raining Wilds gives more spins and steadier action; Sticky Wilds gives fewer spins and a bigger top end.
At casinos that offer it, the bonus can be bought for 100x the bet. A buy lands three to six scatters at random and still lets you choose the mode.
RTP, volatility and the ceiling
The default RTP is 96.55%, and the Ontario-regulated version checked shows the same figure; casinos can choose lower settings, so check the game's information screen, and why the same slot can have different RTP explains why. Pragmatic rates the game medium volatility.
Pragmatic announced a maximum of 12,305x the stake, reachable in the Sticky Wilds round, and the game's intro screen advertises wins of over 12,000x. That is almost double the original's 6,750x, and the multiplying wilds are the reason.
Ontario stake caps can be far below the studio default: one regulated casino stops at $48 a spin.
Original or Megaways?
The original is a fixed 20-line game with additive wilds, a random 9 to 27 spins and no buy. The Megaways version is busier, swingier in its free spins and gives more control through the mode choice and the buy. If the original's sticky round felt capped, this is the version that loosens it.
In the free demo above, try the same trigger in both modes a few times; how often Sticky Wilds produces nothing against how often it produces a large round shows the trade-off better than any description.
