Three brothers, one mountain and a winged horse

Zeus, Poseidon and Hades were brothers who divided the sky, the sea and the underworld between them. Hades lived far from Olympus, so he is usually left out of the twelve Olympians who gave the mountain its fame. Olympus itself is real: the highest peak in Greece, about 2,918 metres, on the border of Thessaly and Macedonia.

The myths hand designers a ready cast. Athena was born from Zeus's head, and Pegasus came from the blood of Medusa, with Poseidon as his sire. Reviews of these games mention gold-and-marble scenery, crowns and goblets, helmets and vases, and a winged horse.

Where the nine games part ways

The Gates of Olympus family shares one engine. Gates of Olympus is a six-by-five grid with no paylines: eight or more matching symbols win, winners tumble away, multiplier symbols reach 500x, and the studio lists a 5,000x top win. Super Scatter adds a second scatter that pays from 100x to 50,000x the bet when the free spins trigger. The 1000 edition raises multiplier symbols to 1,000x with a published 15,000x top win, and the 2500 edition adds a wheel that picks one of four free spins modes.

The rest use myth for other jobs. In Rise of Olympus, Zeus, Poseidon and Hades are both symbols and helpers, and free spins start with a choice of one god; database listings describe it as a trade between spin count and strength. Age of the Gods: King of Olympus, from 2016, is a 25-line Zeus slot tied to a four-tier progressive jackpot network. Divine Fortune turns the winged horse into a Falling Wild that keeps respinning down the reels, with a three-tier jackpot game topped by a progressive Mega. Amazing Link Athena is a hold-and-win game whose jackpot tiers are fixed multiples of the stake, not a growing pool.

Why Olympus does not set the odds

All four Gates of Olympus editions list an RTP of 96.50% or 96.52%, yet the original is labelled medium volatility on the studio's info page while trade press and databases class the 1000 edition as high. Same gods, same grid, different shape of results. Divine Fortune is labelled medium on NetEnt's page and Rise of Olympus is listed as high. Operators can also run other RTP settings, so check why the same slot can have different RTP.

Progressive jackpots, like those in Age of the Gods and Divine Fortune, are funded by a share of stakes and are very rarely won. They may also be absent from the version offered in a given jurisdiction, so the game you open may differ from the description.

The free demos run each studio's unmodified game on virtual credits, so nothing in them predicts real-money results. You must be 19 or older to play in Ontario. ConnexOntario (1-866-531-2600) gives free, confidential support, and our responsible gambling page has more on staying in control.
