Free Fairy Tale and Fantasy Slots
Five free fairy tale and fantasy demo slots, from folk tales with walking wilds and swooping reels to anime princesses and a stage magician. Virtual credits only, compared by mechanics.
Old folk tales and newer fantasy on one shelf
"Jack and the Beanstalk" first appeared in print in London in 1734 as "The Story of Jack Spriggins and the Enchanted Bean", and some researchers argue that the underlying tale type is thousands of years old. The three little pigs, with houses of straw, sticks and bricks, is another folk tale. The other three games here move to newer fantasy: two anime-styled princesses and a stage magician. The magical-girl genre behind the princesses dates to 1960s Japanese manga.
Walking wilds, swooping reels and princess powers
The two folk tales are line slots with short rule sets. Jack and the Beanstalk (NetEnt, 2011) has a wild that walks one reel left on each respin and pays triple; in free spins, keys collected on the fifth reel upgrade the wilds at three, six and nine keys. Big Bad Wolf (Quickspin) is a 25-line cascade game: winning symbols are blown away, and on every second consecutive win a pig turns wild.
The fantasy games are built differently. Moon Princess (Play'n GO, 2017) has a 5x5 grid with no paylines, three princesses who change the grid at random, and free spins that start only when all 25 symbols are cleared. Starlight Princess (Pragmatic Play, 2021) pays anywhere on a 6x5 grid, with multiplier hearts from 2x to 500x. Magician's Secrets runs on six reels and 4,096 ways, with an expanding Magician wild and a choice of two free spins rounds, one with respins and one with sticky wilds.
By pace, the two folk tales are the plainer reads and the princess games both cascade. Moon Princess and Magician's Secrets are the two that hand over a choice when free spins begin.
One wolf, two RTP settings
Quickspin lists two RTP settings for Big Bad Wolf, 90% and 97%, under identical artwork, about seven percentage points apart. NetEnt lists 96.28% for Jack and the Beanstalk, and databases list 96.5% for Moon Princess, and the studio lists 96.50% for Starlight Princess. Volatility is not published for Big Bad Wolf, and databases disagree about it; the other four are listed as high. For why one title carries several figures, see why the same slot can have different RTP.
Fairy-tale artwork also says little about how long a game takes to pay. Long quiet stretches are normal in several of these, and a cheerful pastel look is no sign of a gentle maths model.
