In short: Fire in the Hole xBomb is Nolimit City's 2021 mining slot, where every collapse opens another row and exploding wilds build a multiplier. The grid grows from 64 to 46,656 ways, the Lucky Wagon Spins bonus lives or dies by coins, and the top prize is 60,000x. It suits players who like a mechanic that snowballs within a spin and can live with Extreme volatility.
A mine that gets deeper with every win
Fire in the Hole went live with Nolimit City's partners on 2 March 2021 and was the first game to use the studio's xBomb mechanic. The setting is a dwarf-run gold mine, deep underground where the sun does not shine but the gold does.
The grid has six reels. Each spin starts with three active rows, which is 64 ways to win. Winning symbols are paid and removed, the symbols above drop down, and each collapse opens one more row, up to six. Six rows on six reels is where the 46,656 ways come from, so a spin that keeps collapsing gets steadily more generous.
Three things can cause a collapse: a winning combination, an exploding xBomb, or Wild Mining.
xBomb and Wild Mining
The xBomb is a wild that substitutes for everything except bonus symbols. When it explodes it destroys the symbols around it (bonus symbols excepted) and adds one to the win multiplier for the next collapse. It explodes whether or not the spin is a winning one, so a bomb can keep a dead spin alive.
Wild Mining is the base game's consolation route. When three, four or five of the same symbol line up horizontally but there is no win, the game adds one, two or three wilds. Put together, collapses open rows and ways, and bombs raise the multiplier, which is why the biggest base-game hits come from long chains rather than single spins.
Lucky Wagon Spins
Three, four or five bonus symbols trigger Lucky Wagon Spins, starting with two, three or four rows open. The round begins with three spins, and the counter resets to three every time a coin lands, so coins are what keep it going.
The top row reveals an enhancer above each reel: coin values, multipliers, dynamite, a bag, a chest or the dwarf himself. An enhancer is activated when a coin lands on the reel below it. Free spins trigger about once every 200 spins on average, and where it is offered the feature buy costs 60x, 157x or 500x the bet for three, four or five bonus symbols. Buys are removed in some regulated markets.
RTP, volatility and the 60,000x cap
The standard RTP is 96.06%, and an Ontario-regulated casino shows the same figure. Nolimit City also supplies the game at 94.11% and 90.02%, a six-point spread, so check the info screen before playing for real; why the same slot can have different RTP explains how this works.
Nolimit City rates the volatility Extreme, and the published stats show what that means. The hit frequency is 25.98%, roughly one winning spin in four, and the 60,000x maximum has a stated probability of about 1 in 2.4 million spins. Ontario casinos simply label it high. Hitting the cap triggers a short animation called Beer Time.
Nolimit's bet range runs from 0.20 to 50 per spin, though casinos set their own limits.
Fire in the Hole 3
The franchise returned on 3 June 2025 with Fire in the Hole 3. It keeps the xBomb wild multiplier, adds xSplit, xHole and an xGod route to a 70,000x top prize, and offers a gamble into Lucky Wagon Spins on wins of 5x or more.
Who it suits
Fire in the Hole is a good fit if you enjoy watching a grid expand and a multiplier creep up within one spin, and you are comfortable with a bonus that can end after three empty spins. If you want a fixed layout or a gentle balance curve, it will feel chaotic.
