In short: Le Bandit is Hacksaw Gaming's 2023 cluster-pays slot starring a raccoon thief on a 6x5 Paris street. Winning positions leave Golden Squares behind, and a Rainbow turns them into coins, clovers and pots of gold, with three tiers of free spins and a 10,000x cap. It suits players who enjoy a multi-step chain and do not mind waiting for the Rainbow.
Smokey Le Bandit and Super Cascades
Le Bandit arrived in Hacksaw's August 2023 release batch. It plays on six reels and five rows with cluster pays, and the star is Smokey Le Bandit, a crowbar-wielding raccoon with a pickpocket habit and a fondness for leprechaun hats.
The base mechanic is Super Cascades. When a cluster wins, every contributing symbol disappears along with every other symbol of the same type on the screen. New symbols fall in, and the process repeats as long as each drop produces another win. That clears the board faster than a normal cascade, but the real money in this design is in what the emptied cells turn into.
Golden Squares, coins, clovers and pots
Every position that formed part of a win is marked with a Golden Square once its symbol disappears. On their own the squares do nothing. When a Rainbow lands on the same spin, every square activates and reveals a coin, a Four-Leaf Clover or a Pot of Gold.
- Coins: Bronze from 0.2x to 4x, Silver from 5x to 20x, Gold up to 500x.
- Clovers multiply the adjacent coins and pots by 2x to 10x.
- Pots of Gold collect the value of every coin and other pot in view, working top to bottom and left to right.
After the last pot has collected, the Golden Squares activate once more for a second pass. The chain therefore runs in a fixed order: clusters mark squares, the Rainbow activates them, clovers boost, pots collect. In the free demo it is worth following one spin all the way through to see how each step feeds the next.
Three free spins tiers
The number of FS symbols in one base-game spin decides the round. Three start Luck of the Bandit, where Golden Squares stay marked between spins until a Rainbow activates them; two more FS symbols add two spins, three add three, and four upgrade the round to the next tier on the spot.
Four FS symbols open All That Glitters Is Gold with 12 spins, where all squares stay marked throughout and can activate again and again. Five open Treasure at the End of the Rainbow, also 12 spins, with a Rainbow guaranteed on every spin. That top round cannot be bought.
Where buys are offered, a Buy Bonus menu gives direct entry to the bonus rounds other than the top one, and BonusHunt FeatureSpins gives 5x better odds of triggering a bonus for three times the stake. Availability depends on the market and the casino.
RTP, volatility and the 10,000x cap
Hacksaw supplies four RTP settings: 96.34%, 94.23%, 92.17% and 88.36%, almost eight points apart from top to bottom. The good news for Ontario is that at least one regulated casino here shows the top 96.34% figure, but check the info screen wherever you play; why the same slot can have different RTP explains why it varies.
Hacksaw rates volatility 3 out of 5, a middle grade on its own scale; Ontario casinos describe it anywhere from medium-high to high. The maximum win is 10,000x the stake. No single coin gets close to that on its own, since the top Gold coin is 500x, so the cap depends on clovers and pots stacking on the same activation.
Not to be confused with Le Bandit Hold & Win
Hacksaw also makes Le Bandit Hold & Win, a separate game with paylines, two Hold & Win bonuses and a 2,500x cap. It shares the raccoon and the Rainbow, Clover and Pot symbols, but not the rules.
Who it suits
Le Bandit rewards players who like layered systems and enjoy watching a board fill with marked squares before the payoff. The flip side is that without a Rainbow, all those squares are just potential, and Hacksaw does not publish how often a Rainbow appears. If you prefer one simple feature, its sequence of stages may feel like a lot of waiting for one event.
