Live Dealer Casino in Ontario: How Live Tables Work, Studios and Rules

Live dealer games stream real cards and wheels from a studio, mostly from Evolution, Pragmatic Play and Playtech in Ontario. Here's how the tables run, what limits to expect, which variants change the house edge, and what happens if you…

Key takeaways

  • Ontario's live tables come mainly from Evolution, Pragmatic Play and Playtech, streamed from shared studios outside the province; Evolution lists two AGCO registrations.
  • Same rules, same house edge: a live table at about 60 hands an hour costs a $10 blackjack player about $3 an hour on average, against about $10 at 200 RNG hands.
  • If you disconnect, AGCO Standard 4.21 requires the game to recover, or to pay your winnings so far or return your stake, whichever is better for you.

At a live table, a real person deals real cards, or spins a real wheel, in a studio somewhere. Cameras film it, a system reads the result, and your bet settles by itself. You get a short betting window on screen, then you sit back and watch the round play out.

In Ontario’s regulated lobbies, those tables come mainly from Evolution, Pragmatic Play and Playtech. Evolution lists itself as registered with the AGCO, and all three studios have tables in Ontario lobbies as of October 2026.

The house edge on a classic live table is the same as the matching game’s maths. What changes is speed: a live table deals far fewer rounds per hour than a digital game, so the same edge costs you less per hour. See which Ontario casinos have live tables.

The short version in about 75 seconds. Captions are on screen.

How a live table works, from studio to screen

Whatever the game, every live table you join is built from the same four pieces:

  • The studio. It’s a physical room with real tables, a dealer or presenter, lighting and several cameras. Pragmatic Play, for example, describes multiple 4K cameras and its own in-house video broadcasting, and says its roulette is broadcast from its studio in Bucharest.
  • The result reader. The table’s equipment turns what happens physically (which cards came out, which pocket the ball landed in) into data the game server can settle. That’s why your balance updates seconds after the round ends.
  • The betting window. A timer on screen counts down while bets are open. When it hits zero, bets are locked and the dealer acts. On Evolution’s Speed Roulette, betting is only open while the ball is spinning, and rounds run about 25 seconds from spin to spin, roughly half a standard round.
  • The game server. This holds your bet, applies the paytable and posts the result to your account history.

The dealer can’t steer the result. The dealer runs the table but doesn’t pick the outcome, and Ontario’s rules back that up: AGCO Standard 4.36 requires operators to have controls so presenters can’t compromise a game’s integrity, and 4.35 restricts access to live dealer equipment to people with a business need.

Five steps of a live dealer round: studio table with cameras, video stream and bet screen, bets lock when the timer hits zero, result reader turns the outcome into data, game server settles and posts the result
The dealer runs the table; the result is read and settled automatically.

Evolution says it runs more than 2,000 live tables worldwide, and its only Canadian studio location is British Columbia. So the table you’re watching from Toronto or Ottawa is usually streamed from a shared studio, not one in Ontario.

Which live studios supply Ontario casinos

Anything you play on a regulated Ontario site has to come from a supplier registered with the AGCO. The table sets out what each big live studio’s own pages and Ontario lobbies show as of October 2026.

Studio Ontario status Seen in Ontario lobbies
Evolution Licence page lists two AGCO registrations; in Ontario since launch day, 4 April 2022 Lightning Roulette, Infinite Blackjack, Speed Baccarat
Pragmatic Play (Live) AGCO calls its operator, Arrise Solutions, a registered supplier (May 2026 notice) Mega Roulette, ONE Blackjack, Mega Baccarat
Playtech (Live) Tables listed in a regulated Ontario lobby (FanDuel Casino Ontario) Prestige Roulette, Vegas Baccarat Live, Unlimited Blackjack

That May 2026 notice fined Arrise $40,000 because some of its games had shown up on unregulated sites reachable from Ontario. It was about where the games were available, not about whether regulated tables are fair.

Ontario-branded and dedicated tables

Some tables carry a casino’s name. Pragmatic Play announced in June 2025 that BET99 players in Ontario get six BET99-branded live tables (blackjack, baccarat and roulette) using its Smart Studio technology, which lets several brands appear on the same physical table at once. “Branded” usually means a custom look, not different odds. FanDuel Casino Ontario also lists several FanDuel-named Evolution blackjack tables.

Table limits: what Ontario lobbies show

Live tables usually ask for a bigger minimum than digital games. The limits printed in FanDuel Casino Ontario’s lobby give you a fair picture of the spread, with two digital tables at the end for comparison:

Game (studio) Format Min to max bet
Lightning Roulette (Evolution) Live dealer $0.20 to $10,000
Immersive Roulette (Evolution) Live dealer $0.20 to $500
Prestige Roulette (Playtech) Live dealer $1 to $10,000
Salon Prive Auto Roulette (Evolution) Live wheel, no dealer $100 to $10,000
Infinite Blackjack (Evolution) Live dealer $1 to $5,000
Blackjack Lobby (Pragmatic) Live dealer, range across tables $5 to $100,000
Vegas Baccarat Live (Playtech) Live dealer $2 to $20,000
Speed Baccarat A (Evolution) Live dealer $1 to $1,000
First Person Roulette (Evolution) Digital (RNG) $0.10 to $10,000
First Person Blackjack (Evolution) Digital (RNG) $1 to $5,000

Two things the numbers don’t spell out. The minimum shown is often per spot, and on blackjack a split or double needs a second stake of the same size. And seated classic blackjack has only seven seats, so the cheap seats fill first, a bit like the good patio tables on a Friday. Infinite Blackjack exists partly to solve that.

Live rule variants that change the house edge

Classic live tables use normal rules and normal maths. The branded variants are where the edge moves, and studios rarely publish the new RTP. Your best tool is the help screen (the “i” or “?” icon) at the table: Ontario’s AGCO Standard 4.06 requires game rules and payout information before you bet.

Roulette

  • European (single zero): it’s 2.70% on every standard bet.
  • French with La Partage: Evolution’s French Roulette gives back half an even-money stake when zero lands, which cuts those bets to 1.35%. If you bet red or black, that’s the wheel to look for.
  • Lightning Roulette: one to five Lucky Numbers get a 50x to 500x multiplier each round. To pay for that, a non-multiplied straight-up win pays 29 to 1 instead of 35 to 1 (LeoVegas Ontario shows it as 30x, stake included). Every other bet pays as standard single-zero roulette, so splits, corners and red/black stay at 2.70%. The straight-up RTP is in the help screen, not on public pages.

Blackjack

  • Classic live (seven seats): 3:2 blackjack, dealer stands on soft 17, double after split. With basic strategy, that rule set sits around 0.5%. See the basic strategy chart.
  • Infinite Blackjack: unlimited players all get the same first two cards, then each of you plays the hand your own way. LeoVegas Ontario’s page lists dealer stands on soft 17, double on any two cards including after a split, and no re-splitting; Evolution adds a Six Card Charlie rule. That’s close to the classic rules, but Evolution doesn’t publish the RTP publicly.
  • Lightning Blackjack: there’s a 100% Lightning fee on every initial bet, so a $10 hand really costs $20 up front. Winning hands get a 2x to 25x multiplier that applies to the next round. Don’t judge it by the 0.5% classic figure.
  • Power Blackjack: 9s and 10s are removed (picture cards stay), and you can double, triple or quadruple. Removing those cards changes the maths.

Baccarat

  • Standard and Speed Baccarat: Banker 1.06% (after the 5% commission), Player 1.24%, Tie at 8:1 14.36%. That Tie number is the one to remember.
  • No Commission: Banker wins pay even money, except a Banker win on 6 pays half. That nudges the Banker edge up to about 1.46%.
  • Lightning Baccarat: a 20% fee on your total bet buys the chance at 2x to 8x Lightning Cards. The published classic edges don’t apply any more.

You’ll find the full rules of each game in how to play roulette, how to play blackjack and how to play baccarat. Wheel-based shows like Crazy Time are covered in live game shows explained.

Live vs RNG: edge and speed

RNG (“First Person” or digital) versions use the same rules, so they carry the same edge. The difference is that you control the pace. Live paces come from Evolution’s published round times; the RNG pace is only an example, because it depends on how fast you tap. Digital minimums are usually a little lower too, as the limits table shows.

Game House edge Live rounds per hour RNG (example)
European roulette 2.70% About 72; 144 on Speed 200
Blackjack, 3:2, S17 About 0.5% About 60 (varies with seats filled) 200
Baccarat, Banker bet 1.06% About 75; about 130 on Speed 200
Average cost per hour: $5 on red costs $9.72 at a standard live table (72 spins), $19.44 on Speed Roulette (144 spins) and $27 on RNG roulette (200 spins); $10 blackjack costs $3 live (60 hands) and $10 RNG (200 hands)
OCL calculation: bet x rounds per hour x house edge.

Worked examples: what an hour costs

The formula is simple: bet size x rounds per hour x house edge. Keep in mind it’s an average over a very long run, not a forecast for one evening.

Example 1: live blackjack vs RNG blackjack

Say you’re playing $10 hands with basic strategy on a 3:2 table, edge about 0.5%.

  • Live table at 60 hands an hour: $10 x 60 x 0.005 = $3 an hour on average.
  • RNG version at 200 hands an hour: $10 x 200 x 0.005 = $10 an hour.

The edge is identical, yet the average cost is more than three times higher, purely because of speed: $2,000 goes through the RNG game in that hour against $600 live.

Example 2: standard, Speed and RNG roulette

Now say you bet $5 on red each round on single-zero roulette (2.70%).

  • Standard live table, about 72 spins an hour: $5 x 72 x 0.027 = $9.72 an hour.
  • Speed Roulette, 25-second rounds, about 144 spins: $19.44 an hour.
  • RNG roulette at 200 spins: $27 an hour.

On the same wheel with the same edge, Speed doubles your expected cost. So pick the pace first, then set your session budget.

Bet Behind: playing a seat you don’t control

Classic Evolution blackjack has seven seats, and Bet Behind lets you put money on a seated player’s hand, even when every seat is taken or while you’re seated yourself. Pragmatic Play runs a Bet Behind Pro Blackjack table in Ontario lobbies too.

The catch is that the seated player makes every decision. If they stand on 16 against a dealer 10, or skip a double you’d have taken, your money rides on their call. Bet Behind only carries the same base edge if the seated player follows basic strategy; any mistakes they make cost you as well. Evolution itself notes that players mostly back people “on a strong winning streak”, but a streak says nothing about the next hand (see the gambler’s fallacy). Each round is independent (AGCO Standard 4.24).

What happens if your connection drops

If you’re mid-hand when the subway goes into a tunnel and the stream freezes, Ontario has a rule for that. AGCO Standard 4.21 says service interruptions must not disadvantage players. At a minimum, the system has to tell you that connection or processor speed may affect a game, recover in a timely way, void bets where appropriate, keep enough information to restore the game, and where a game can’t continue, either pay what you’d won up to that point or return your bet, whichever is better for you. Standard 4.20 adds that where speed of interaction affects your chances, the operator must take reasonable steps so system performance problems don’t unfairly disadvantage you.

The detail lives in each game’s rules. One published example is a live blackjack rule set filed with Nevada regulators (studio not named). If you disconnect with decisions still to make, the game moves your hand into an interrupted mode with the cards already dealt, waits a set time for you to reconnect, then auto-completes the hand using optimal strategy, with no new money added (so no doubles or splits). Side bets are settled on the live cards. Roulette and baccarat are simpler: there are no decisions after betting closes, so a bet accepted before the timer ended normally just settles.

Once you’re back, check your bet history, screenshot anything odd and contact support. If that doesn’t sort it, follow the Ontario complaints process.

Mobile data, phones and location checks

On a data plan, keep in mind that a live table is a continuous video stream, so it uses far more data than a digital game. Studios don’t publish bitrates, but every 1 megabit per second of stream is about 450 MB an hour. At 2 Mbps that’s about 900 MB an hour, so a 10 GB plan covers about 11 hours. Lower the video quality or hop on Wi-Fi.

Ontario sites also have to confirm you’re in the province, and switching networks mid-session can interrupt play; see GeoComply in Ontario casinos and Ontario casino apps and mobile play.

Chat and etiquette

  • Chat is public. The dealer and other players can see it. Keep it polite, and never post your name, account details or location.
  • Act before the timer. On seated blackjack, a hand with no decision is usually stood for you.
  • Ignore the history board as a guide. Evolution’s roulette shows up to 500 recent numbers. They’re a record, not a pattern; see roulette strategies explained.

Common problems and fixes

  • “My bet didn’t go in.” You probably placed it after the timer closed. Bet early in the window, especially on Speed tables.
  • A higher bill than expected. Speed tables and Lightning fees both push the cost up, so check the pace and the help screen before you sit down.
  • Lag on mobile. Drop the video quality before blaming the table.

One last habit worth building: set a deposit or time limit in your account before you join a table, and the cost stays where you planned it. If gambling stops feeling like fun, ConnexOntario is free and confidential at 1-866-531-2600.

Frequently asked questions

Are live dealer games rigged in Ontario?

Live tables on regulated Ontario sites come from AGCO-registered suppliers and must follow the AGCO's integrity standards, including controls so dealers can't compromise a game. The house edge comes from the payouts, not from manipulating cards or wheels. Each round is independent of the last.

What is the minimum bet at live casino tables in Ontario?

It varies by table. FanDuel Casino Ontario's lobby shows live roulette from $0.20 and live blackjack from $1 to $5, with VIP tables starting at $100. Always check the limit on the table before you join.

Is live blackjack better than online (RNG) blackjack?

With the same rules, the house edge is the same. Live tables deal far fewer hands an hour, so the average cost per hour is lower, but minimums are often higher. Variants like Lightning Blackjack add a fee that changes the maths.

Where are Ontario's live casino studios?

Most live tables are streamed from the studios' shared facilities outside the province. Evolution lists British Columbia as its Canadian studio location, Pragmatic Play broadcasts roulette from Bucharest, and Playtech's main studio is in Latvia.
