See what an RTP or a house edge means in dollars. Choose a table game or enter a slot's RTP, add a bet and a number of rounds, and read the average cost.
Enter a slot's RTP from the game's information screen. Table-game edges follow from the rules. Both fields are linked: RTP plus house edge is 100%.
Enter a bet and a number of rounds to see the result. The calculator needs JavaScript; the explanation below works without it.
The RTP on a slot's page is the figure recorded for the demo or default version. Casinos can run other versions of the same game, so check the game's own information screen where you play. Why the same slot can have different RTPs. Browse the free slot demos and their reviews.
Return to player (RTP) is the share of the money wagered that a game pays back on average over a very large number of rounds. The house edge is what is left: 100% minus the RTP. A slot with a 96% RTP has a 4% house edge, which means that on average it keeps $4 of every $100 wagered.
Worked example: $1 a spin for 500 spins is $500 wagered. At 96% RTP the average cost is $20. That is not what you should expect to lose in a session of 500 spins. It is the average of a huge number of such sessions, some of which end well ahead and many of which end well behind.
In Ontario, operators must make information on the odds of winning, payout odds and returns easily available before a bet is placed, usually on the game's rules or help page.
