Ontario’s regulated online casinos generated a record $336.3 million in revenue in August 2026, according to iGaming Ontario’s monthly market report, published on 23 September 2026. Total market revenue nonetheless fell 4 per cent from July, to $396.3 million, as sports betting had its weakest month of the year.
Players placed $9.74 billion in cash wagers across online casino, betting and peer-to-peer poker in August. That was 1 per cent below July’s record $9.88 billion but still the second-highest monthly total since the market opened in April 2022. Compared with August 2025, wagers rose about 20 per cent and revenue about 18 per cent.

Casino grew without more wagering
Casino wagers were $8.78 billion in both July and August, so the record came from a slightly higher share of stakes retained rather than from more play. Casino revenue equalled about $3.83 for every $100 wagered in August, against $3.76 in July, a swing of the kind that can reverse in a single month. Year over year, casino revenue was up 25.6 per cent from $267.8 million in August 2025.
Casino games, which in iGaming Ontario’s reporting include slots, live and computer-based table games and peer-to-peer bingo, accounted for 90 per cent of all cash wagers and 85 per cent of revenue in August.
Betting moved the other way. Wagers fell 15 per cent from July to $843 million and revenue dropped 30 per cent to $54.4 million, the lowest betting revenue since September 2025. Peer-to-peer poker stayed at about 1 per cent of the market, with $122 million wagered and $5.6 million in revenue. Total monthly revenue remains below the record $425.6 million set in December 2025.
Fewer active accounts
iGaming Ontario counted 1.208 million active player accounts in August, down 11.5 per cent from July’s 1.365 million but up 19 per cent from a year earlier. The agency notes that accounts are not unique players, since one person can hold accounts with several operators. Average revenue per active account rose to $328 from $303, mainly because the account count fell faster than revenue.
How to read the figures
Revenue in the report is non-adjusted gross gaming revenue: cash wagers, including rake and tournament fees, minus player winnings, before operating costs. Cash wagers exclude bonus wagers. The report covers games offered by operators under agreements with iGaming Ontario and excludes OLG’s online offering and pari-mutuel horse-racing bets. All figures are unaudited and subject to adjustment.
What it means for players in Ontario
Revenue is, in aggregate, what players lost. August’s casino figure means the market as a whole kept a little under 4 per cent of what was staked on casino games, though individual results vary widely from session to session. iGaming Ontario’s directory listed 49 operators and 84 gaming websites as of 1 September 2026, and the Ontario casino checker shows whether a site is among them.
Anyone whose own play is growing can set financial and time limits with a regulated operator or opt out of the whole market through BetGuard; the responsible gambling page explains both, and ConnexOntario offers free, confidential help 24 hours a day at 1-866-531-2600. The AGCO and iGaming Ontario explainer sets out who regulates the market and who runs it. September figures will be added to the same iGaming Ontario workbook in its next monthly update.
